SATURDAY DISCOVERY DAYS-PRICKLY PEAR SECRETS
Prickly pear cactus used to be a staple in the diet of humans that lived in the RGV many years ago. The cactus pads, or paddles, can be used in salads, soups, and appetizers. The juice is used to flavor beverages, and the tunas are made into candy, jelly, and sweet desserts. Go on a prickly pear hunt around Quintas' gardens, then make your own prickly pear cactus to learn about the power of every part. Maybe youll even learn how to make a delicious treat out of this wonderful flora! Every Saturday in July from 11 am- Noon. $3 fee (includes park admission). All ages welcome.
